Griffin Furlong graduated at the top of his class with a perfect 4.65 GPA. This is an impressive feat for any high school student, however Griffin overcame incredible odds. He has been homeless since he lost his mother to cancer when he was six years old, sleeping in various homeless shelters and never waking up in his “own bed”. Even more amazing is that most of his fellow students and even his teachers never knew. During his Valedictorian speech he said, “I perform the way I do in the classroom because I have everything to lose.” He told ABC News during the America Strong segment that he was featured in that he wanted to show that anyone can do it. Griffin is set to attend Florida State in the fall and his friends have even raised almost $40,000 for his tuition. After learning about Griffin’s outstanding accomplishments, Florida State will give assistance too.
